Some Observations on the Formation of ^(32)P-labeled NAD by Yeast

Abstract
Some observations. were made of the formation of 32P-labeled NAD by baker¢¥s yeast, the results of which are presented as follows.
1. The uptake of 32P by yeast grown either in Sabouraud¢¥s glucose media or in Atkin¢¥s composite media rapidly reached maximum at 3 to 4 hours of incubation. The uptake was not influenced by the kind of media used nor by the presence of nicotinic acid, glutamine and magnesium chloride in the media.
2. The addition of nicotinic acid, glutamine and magnesium chloride, however, resulted in approximately two fold increase in the formation of 32P-NAD by yeast with the concomitant increase in the incorporation of 32P into ATP and desamido-NAD.
3. The formation of 32P-NAD was barely occurred until total uptake of phosphorus by the yeast reached maximum, suggesting that the processes of phosphorus uptake and of the formation of P32-NAD in the yeast are interrelated but quite different.
